What are Dental Veneers?
There are two types of dental veneers: porcelain and composite.
Porcelain Veneers are extremely thin strips of porcelain that are secured to the outer-facing portion of your tooth. They are uniquely made to match the natural coloring of the surrounding teeth, concealing any imperfections and bringing back your fullest smile. The veneers are nearly impossible to detect and extremely simple to apply. Plus, they’re durable and resistant to staining, whether it’s from coffee, red wine or whatever else your teeth endure. With proper care, porcelain veneers tend to last about 10-15 years.
Composite Veneers are made of engineered resin that is made to match the shade of your surrounding teeth. The benefits of composite veneers are they can be done chairside, so a same-day procedure, completely reversible and less costly than porcelain veneers. With proper care, they can last 4-8 years. Because resin is porous they are not stain resistant.
Who Should Get Porcelain Veneers?
One of the least invasive cosmetic procedures, veneers are for most anyone who is dissatisfied with the current look of their smile. Whether that’s because a tooth has become chipped, or stained, or if a gap has developed between two teeth, these thin veneers can cover almost anything. Veneers may also be right for people with crooked or misshapen teeth, without the high cost of an orthodontic procedure.
In very few cases a patient will not be a good candidate for veneers. If a patient does not have enough enamel for veneer placement, Dr. Grace will present other options. Also, patients need to be in good oral health with any tooth decay being addressed prior to moving forward.
Also Offering Minimal Prep Veneers
Minimal prep veneers, like traditional veneers, are thin pieces of medical-grade ceramic adhered to the front surface of teeth to improve the aesthetics of the mouth. Unlike traditional veneers which require a bit of tooth reduction, minimal prep veneers require extremely minimal reduction (similar to the width of a contact lens). The ultra-thin porcelain is thinner than traditional veneers, about the thickness of a contact lens. This means that the procedure can be reversable in many cases. The veneers are resistant to staining and are extremely durable. With proper care, minimal prep veneers can last patients up to 20 years.
